Servant Activities
Friday at Convention--Please plan
to participate in one of these
exciting opportunities to reach out
to our neighbors--near and far!
Gift wrapping books for the children of Kendall-Whittier
Kendall-Whittier is an
interurban school with a diverse student population facing 21st century
learning challenges with innovative, research-based, instructional
practices. We are also advocates for community enrichment providing
educational opportunities for our KW parents. The elementary school has
an enrollment of approximately 954 children, making it one of Oklahoma’s
largest elementary schools. In partnership with
Grace Lutheran Church, we will gift wrap between 500 and 1000 books to
be given to the children at Christmas time. Join us
for a fun, interactive activity that will put a smile on a child’s face.
Braille Book Assembly
More
than 180 million people around the world are experiencing life with a
visual impairment. Among these, 45 million are blind and 135 million
only have partial sight. There are countries where less than 10% of
blind persons are literate. In a number of countries, less than 15% of
blind children receive an education. Working with Lutheran Braille
Workers we will print and assemble Braille books.
ESL
Flash Cards
Offering “English as a
Second Language” opens the door to building relationships and sharing
the good news of Christ. In this activity we will
create flash card sets that can be used in reinforcement exercises for
vocabulary. We are looking forward to sharing these
in Guatemala through The Servant’s Heart and with Concordia Welfare and
Education Foundation in Yunnan, China.
Backpacks for Kids
Pencils, erasers,
paper…..We will fill backpacks full of school supplies for the children
of Zacatecas. Thru
Hidalgo Del Manto Mission,
Pastor Trini and Nelly Castaneda and their team will distribute these
lovingly packed backpacks this summer.
