Be the Hero, Be the Answer, Be the Match!
Donation of your body tissues is a great way to practice Christian stewardship and to help others in need. There is a need for bone marrow donators across the country and we can help! To help, go to bethematch.org and answer a few simple questions. You will be sent a kit to swab your cheek and return it to be analyzed. Testing is free for women 44 years of age and younger, but don't worry if you are over the age limit, you can help too!
Get your whole congregation involved by sponsoring a blood drive through the Oklahoma Blood Institute, and inform people about the program at the blood drive. You can even have laptops available to help people sign up.
Join the YWRS in this great stewardship opportunity and spread God's love to your community and the world. The likelihood of being a match is small, but it is still important to register because you never know who you could help. Two of our very own district board members have been on the registry for over 10 years and have never been contacted, but are ready to help when the time comes. If you have any questions, feel free to contact Tish Mindemann (firstname.lastname@example.org)
4th Annual Cookies for Courage
We get together for fellowship AND do something worthwhile for some special community servants. On Saturday, November 17, 2018, we met at St. John's Lutheran Church, 1032 NW 12th Street, Moore, OK, for our 4th Annual Cookies for Courage and Bible study. Each participant brought a dozen cookies to be decorated and handed out to firefighters and policemen.
What is LWML all about?
According to our Mission Statement and Primary Focus, it is about relationships: our relationship with Jesus Christ and our relationships with other women. On August 4th, our Young Women were given an opportunity to develop a closer relationship with each other and with Jesus Christ at the Sun & Scripture Pool Party. Thank you so much to Pastor Bersche and his wife, Wendy, who opened their beautiful backyard to us! You two were so gracious to prepare your home for us! However, God has a way of changing our plans to something we never could have imagined. The two attendees (Shari Stepanek & Jennifer Karner, pictured right) changed the venue (with the blessing of Pastor Bersche and Wendy) to “Pub W”, a restaurant in Moore. We enjoyed a delicious lunch and shared a meaningful Bible Study on Ephesians 3:20. Our study also included Genesis 41, which tells about Joseph and Pharaoh. Other verses we discussed were Isaiah 42:3 and Psalm 27:14. “God wants to give us more than we ask for, not just fulfill our weak prayers.” (Martin Luther) God blessed Jennifer and Shari with a special day together. The next time you see a Young Women’s Event posted, please consider grabbing a new gal, a younger gal, or your best friend, and bring them with you to the event. You will be blessed. ~Submitted by your Sister in Christ, Shari Stepanek
