Spring Fling 2023

So many smiling faces, so many hugs, so much laughter and chatter! Spring Fling 2023 brought 111 women and four pastors together for a fast-paced day of activities and fellowship.

Pastor Joel Heckmann led us in the Bible study “Not Alone, and Not in Vain.” We take comfort in knowing we are never alone when doing the work of our Lord, and it is never done in vain.

Marguerite Christman, Delia Collard, and Nelly Castaneda shared their LWML “why” by sharing their story of how they became involved in the LWML.

We learned that national LWML began in 1942 to develop a greater mission consciousness among women. The first mission grant goal in 1943 was $15,000. The mission grant goal for 2021 biennium was $2,221,176! Approximately 85 countries have been touched by LWML mission grants! Those attending Spring Fling had the opportunity to take a “mission walk” down the halls of Messiah Lutheran Church to view the mission grants from 1943 – 2023 posted on the walls.

Other activities included a session on SMILE, passing the “conversation ball,” and shopping at the LWML store.

Orphan Grain Train received over 1,100 pounds of items from Gifts from the Heart, and $801.00 was given to mites.

Thank you goes to the Messiah Lutheran Church LWML for hosting the event and to the Assembly of Leaders team Rev. Joel Heckmann, Brenda Nivens, Nelly Castaneda, and Pam Wiederkehr for planning the program.
